Mark explains metabolic flexibility, your body's way to change from using blood sugar and muscle glycogen as energy, to fat stores. Modern humans have lost this ability as we have succumb to food industry pressure, and subsequently buy and consume (eat) more than our body needs to survive. We are riding on a health crisis train, and have come to believe that we cannot get off. We have been convinced that we cannot overcome our own weaknesses and dependency of a certain level of "comfort". In order to take back our own willpower, reduce inflammation and change a trajectory of disease and shortened life span, we must regain our body's evolutionary and ingenious method of accessing our fat stores for energy. Including an array of subsequent health benefits.
In this video Dr Berg discusses how as we age, we often experience muscle soreness and stiffness, often from the foods we eat and imbalances of too much red meat and man-made/processed oils (omega 6s) that dominate the modern diet. Less omega 6s and more omega 3s can bring balance to our body's needs in order to stay young, fit and feeling of being "able". Actually having the power and means to live a more active lifestyle.
Dr. Berg discusses potassium and the importance of this electrolyte. Your heart, your fluid, your energy, your nutrients in and out of the cell is dependent on the sodium and potassium pump. However, potassium is the most difficult to get from the diet. High levels of cortisol (stress), insulin, sugar, diuretics, excessive salt, surgery, all can deplete potassium. Not discussed in this video is cream of tartar and by how simply adding this easy to find, popular ingredient and to your water throughout the day, can keep your body in homeostasis without breaking your fast.
